Suspected gunmen have ambushed the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone-12 Bauchi, Audu Madaki, between Barde and Jagindi area of Kaduna State on his way to Abuja, and killed his orderly.
Madaki left Bauchi for Abuja before the terrorists ambushed and attacked him.
The Guardian learnt that AIGs were summoned to Abuja by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Baba Alkali for a security meeting.
The AIG was reportedly shot in his arm and injured during the attack, while his orderly was shot dead.
He is said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital while security has been beefed up around the zone.
The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Thomas Goni is yet to respond to calls and messages sent to his phone.
MEANWHILE, Yobe State Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development, Goni Bukar Lawan, has died in a fatal accident in Dambam Local Council of Bauchi State.
The Guardian learnt that the crash occurred on Tuesday night, involving the Commissioner and one other in a government vehicle, a Lexus Jeep GX 470, marked: 11A01YB.
The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) Sector Commander in Bauchi State, Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
According to him, the fatal crash occurred adjacent to A.Y. Dagauda Fueling Station at Dagauda Village, along Dambam – Potiskum in Dambam Local Council of Bauchi State.
Abdullahi said officers of Motor Transport Division of the Nigeria Police Force, of the Dambam Divisional Headquarters, evacuated the victims to Dambam General Hospital for treatment and confirmation.
“It was a lone fatal crash that happened on Tuesday at about 6.15p.m. Immediately we were informed, our men rushed to the scene within 12 minutes for a rescue operation.”
“The vehicle was driven by Hon. Goni Bukar Lawn and he was with one other male adult when the crash happened. The other person sustained injuries. The crash was caused by speed violation leading to loss of control,” he said.
